Projection

installation view

[ Two-channel video installation ]

Projection presents two video landscapes which occupy the same surface in a power struggle to define our relationship to the natural landscape. The large projection is a re-constructed nature video with a constant audio track and fleeting images of mundane urban landscapes, corporate icons and underwater footage. The small video is static, real time footage from Badwater in Death Valley, 250 feet below sea level.

The voice over for the larger video was re-compiled and edited, from several nature video programs on underwater sea life, and then digitally re-recorded and re-mixed. The narrative episodes combine both exurban sprawl and underwater imagery. The dramatic action narrative never achieves closure; rather each remains in perpetual anticipation and unfolding. 1996.
